In March 2016, I was interviewed (in Dutch) by Bert Kranenbarg at NPO Radio 1. I was very excited! It was not necessary to travel to Hilversum, but a technician came to Tilburg for the interview.
During this interview, that took place the day before my PhD defense, I explained why Senegal is only to a limited extent in compliance with the human rights framework.
While the exact number of girls and women worldwide who have undergone FGM/C remains unknown, a recent UNICEF publication revealed that at least 200 million girls and women in 30 countries have been subjected to the practice. Previous UN publications always used the number '140 million', but excluded countries in Asia and the Middle East. I explain that the problem of FGM/C is larger than previously thought.
I also explained why the goal of the United Nations to eliminate the practice of FGM/C worldwide before 2030 will - most probably - not be achieved.
